I did marketing before I ever went back to grad school to become a therapist. So when I sat where you sit, I could see what was actually going on. The marketing industry doesn't understand clinicians, and no one ever taught clinicians a version of marketing that feels like them.

I'm Amanda Smith, founder of The Passive Practice, a brand strategy and marketing agency built specifically for therapists, PMHNPs, and private practice owners.
I worked in marketing before I ever set foot in grad school to become a therapist. And it was there, near the end of my training, that it hit me: we were being taught to heal, to listen, to hold the hardest moments of someone's life. Nobody was teaching us how to start a practice, brand ourselves, or build a career beyond the community mental health model. Years of rigorous clinical training, and a complete blind spot on the thing that would determine whether any of us could actually sustain this work.
Most of my classmates would graduate and learn that lesson the hard way. I happened to already have the answer, because I'd spent years on the other side.
So I built my own practice, then started helping other clinicians build theirs. That turned into The Passive Practice: brand strategy, custom websites, SEO, and done-for-you marketing for the people who were taught to do everything except get found.
When I'm not building brands, I'm a wife, a mom of five, and outnumbered by two lively dogs.
